Snoop Dogg Celebrates His Transformation to Lion

Snoop Lion, the artist formerly known as Snoop Dogg, appears to be committed to his Rastafarian rebirth. The lifestyle, the music, and the look seemed to have stuck—at least, for now.

New York Post’s Page 6 is reporting that the artist did a special guest appearance at the Box in New York City on Friday night.
After the set—which apparently included a vocal and DJ performance—Snoop and his crew took to the Lower East Side-based establishment’s upstairs, to watch the remainder of the show. And to probably smoke a lot of weed, too.

Acts that night included a Wizard of Oz-themed break-dance routine, which—thinking about it—sounds like it could only improve when the audience is high.

In addition to giving unexpected performances, Snoop screened his new documentary, Reincarnated, at the Bowery Hotel. The film chronicles the artist’s extended journey to Jamaica to partake in island life and embrace this new laid back chapter of his career.

Here, he recorded his new album with Philly-based DJ Diplo, who served as producer. The release, as he explains in a trailer for the doc., features zero rap.

Instead, it presents a chirpier sound, a more positive message, and obvious island influences, with songs like “Here Comes the King,” featuring Angela Hunte, as proof. It will be released by RCA Records.

“As you become a man, you start having kids and living,” he previously told GQ. “You put the guns away, and your music becomes Hey, I'm with my kid and I'm living now... as opposed to F*ck that—I'll shoot you on sight.”
